Move goods, reduce emissions
Increasing the percentage of transport by rail compared to road is the most effective solution for significantly reducing road traffic – and consequently the risk of accidents – and reducing pollution. In particular, choosing Inter-rail’s intermodal transport for your heavy goods means significantly reducing CO₂ emissions, making every shipment a concrete step towards more responsible logistics. The impact speaks for itself: for example, for the transport of slabs, which is strongly supported by the FVG Region, we operate an average of 12 trains per week, avoiding to have 720 trucks on the road.

Considering that rail freight traffic emits 80% less CO₂ per tonne-kilometre than the average lorry, the environmental benefits of rail freight are undeniable.

Case Study:
slab transport

Inter-rail has won the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region tender for the intermodal transport of steel slabs, semi-finished steel products that must be transported from the port of Monfalcone to the rolling mills located in the Aussa-Corno industrial area (a route of about 40 km). With an average of 12 trains per week, this mode of transport will remove 39,000 lorries from the region’s roads over the course of a year!

Circular economy: transport that makes the most of resources

Using Inter-rail transport services can contribute to the development of a more efficient and circular production system in your company.
Production waste and scrap can be recycled as new resources and reintroduced into the production cycle. We play a strategic role in this process: we reduce waste, optimise material recovery and help companies align themselves with the principles of the circular economy, improving their reputation and environmental impact.
